At A Glance
Number of Students:
Orangewood has a present enrollment of about 250 students. Long range enrollment numbers are expected to increase to over 500 students.
Class size/Student Teacher ratios:
Class sizes range from 20 at the lower elementary school to 25 to 30 at the middle and high schools. Average school-wide teacher to student ratios across the range of classes stand at about 12:1.
Chapels and Assemblies:
All Orangewood students enjoy weekly opportunities to join fellow students in worship and spiritual nurture. Elementary students enjoy daily class devotional time, culminating in a general elementary chapel every Friday morning. Middle school has two scheduled chapel services a week. Our high school students gather three times a week for singing, spiritual nurture, moral instruction, and fellowship. General assemblies are scheduled to host special speakers or performing groups from other schools.
Weeks of Spiritual Emphasis:
Students are provided with age-appropriate weeks of spiritual emphasis. Special guest speakers are invited to share spiritual themes with the students. These weeks of spiritual emphasis are scheduled by administration during fall and spring semesters. Students from Kindergarten to 12th grade participate in these spiritual feasts.
Organizations and Clubs:
Orangewood sponsors a number of student organizations in grades 6-12 that are designed to promote student leadership, in addition to physical, mental, social, and spiritual talents and skills. These activities include Drama, Praise Band, Associated Student Body, The National Honor Society, and other student leadership opportunities.
Community Service Activities:
Orangewood Academy sponsors TOAST (The Orangewood Academy Service Team), which provides school-wide opportunities to engage the community in practical and meaningful service. In addition our high school studentsparticipate in yearly mission trips and community food drives coordinated by outside service organizations.
Field Trips:
Academic experiences are not limited to the classroom at Orangewood Academy. Beginning in 3rd grade and continuing through 12th grade, our students have the opportunity to participate in off-campus, extended field trips which accentuate the classroom curriculum. These include extended trips to Sea World, Catalina Island, Sacramento, the Eastern Sierra, the Albion Marine Biology Institute, and the Washington, D.C. Interdisciplinary Trip. Our students also participate in musical and drama performances at local churches and schools.
Test Scores:
All students, beginning with second grade, participate in the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basis Skills). These instruments are a set of standardized test given annually to students across the United States. They were developed in 1942 at the University of Iowa to provide a series of nationally accepted standardized achievement tests. Since Orangewood is part of a national educational system, only a national set of standards would serve the purposes of the system. Nationwide standards provide a broader indicator of student abilities and development. A majority of our students consistently test at or above grade level on the national norms. Longitudinal studies of our students' ITBS and ITED scores show the longer a student remains at Orangewood, the better the test scores become.

Educational Philosophy:
Every student enrolled at Orangewood Academy is a child of God, created in His image, with inherent abilities and talents given by the Creator to attain ultimate success in life. Every student can achieve high goals and will be given every opportunity possible by his/her teachers to find that level of attainment. Our education is supported by the four pillars of spirituality, scholarship, service, and sportsmanship. It is the goal of each teacher to instill in every student the qualities of respect, responsibility, courtesy, and grace-in every situation, and towards all people. Our education is unapologetically Christ-centered and based on biblical principles gleaned from a Christian world view and an Adventist heritage. We believe that it is our primary purpose to guide every student into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as we awaken in them a love for learning and the joy of discovery.
The Kingdom of God produces citizens that will positively impact their family, their community, their society, and their world, while preparing them for the citizenship in the world to come.
