Anna Marie Savino M.Ed. - High School English

"Education, to me, is teaching people how to be fully human in a world fascinated with robotics."

After graduating from Loma Linda Academy in 1998, Anna Savino began her college career as a Liberal Arts major at Fullerton College. After a year, she decided that she wanted to manage a Day Care in her own home, so she changed her major to Business and decided to take Child Development classes. Once she realized that she could major in Child Development, she changed her major once again. Four years later, she graduated from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development. In September of that same year, Anna began her Secondary Education Credential and Master's program at National University in San Diego, California. In May of 2006, she graduated with her Secondary Education Credential and her Masters in Education, with a focus on Cross-Cultural Curriculum Development. Her Master's thesis tested her own theories from a book that she is still writing, entitled Teaching with ASMILE: Incorporating Universal Concepts into a Diverse Classroom Curriculum.

In 2003, Anna started her teaching career at San Diego Adventist Academy, as the female Junior High Physical Education teacher and librarian. She then transferred to her first public-school teaching job at Granite Hills High School, in El Cajon, California, where she taught ESL/ELD, Freshman, and Sophomore English courses. The next year, she moved up to Northern California, where she taught Freshman and Junior English, AVID, CAHSEE Workshop, and Dance Performance courses over the next two years.

Being a product of Seventh-day Adventist education, Anna has a passion for incorporating her love for God into her curriculum. Unfortunately, she was unable to share this passion in her curriculum at a public school. Anna feels blessed that she is now able to teach her students about God's love through the stories read in her English classes. This year, she is back at Orangewood Academy, teaching AP English, English I-IV, Honors English II-III, and Drama courses and sponsoring the ASB Social Council and Sophomore class. This year will bring many challenges, but with God's guidance and peace, she is looking forward to making a positive difference in the lives of those around her.

She can be reached at ASavino@OrangewoodAcademy.com or at 714-534-4694 ext. 104.
